DIFFICULT
I think it is a really nice and unusual stimulus to have to be inspired by a song. The songs I was given were:
The Body - The night knows no dawn
DMX Krew- Supperdish
New Order- Age of Consent
J Dilla- Fuck the Police (Instrumental)
They are a varied mix of songs...
To begin this task I listened to the songs and wrote a list of immediate images which sprang to mind whilst listening to the song- short scenarios which could transfer well into Giffs.
I began with 'The Body - The night knows no dawn'
This is a horrible piece of music which basically is reverb and gain and noise. Throughout this piece I imagined...
- Evil person lighting a bomb
- Guy with a skinhead beating up someone
- Letting a guard dog loose
- A possessed person
- Vampire rising out of a coffin
- Warewolf transformation
- Someone being torched
- Murderer chasing in a dark forrest
- Ghosts attacking someone curled up in a ball
Then listened to 'DMX Krew- Supperdish'
I liked this song, it is the style of music my friends next door listen to aaaaallll the time.
- Someone driving through a tunnel in a swanky car
- Old man dancing very woodenly
- Dodgy sunbathing guy
- Suited man walking with 2 babes
- Afro man dancing at disco
Then 'New Order- Age of Consent'
I really like New Order and have practically grown up on it. It reminds me of a Romcom and lot of silent happy scenes
- Teenage boy running after lover
- Teenagers hanging out in the summer (beach/daisy chains)
- After a buys first kiss
- Dancing down the street
- On a happy mission
- Doing make up before a pool party
- Rushing to the airport to stop a girl getting away
- Lying on bed thinking happy thoughts
I really cannot draw characters. I can also only draw things from reference and observation. I can picture these scenareos so clearly in my mind and it is so frustrating that I cant just draw them onto paper! Until I came to uni I also have not been a cartoon watcher. I am up to series 5 of the Simpsons now as I have just never watched them so maybe I have missed out on that as a subconscious influence when growing up. I just always like things to look realistic and I know that this is something I need to change so that I can become diverse and expand what I can do. However I also know that it is hard and I am going to have to work very hard to achieve this.
I decided to try and draw out some of the scenes... As simply as I could...
These were drawings from reference... |
