Goals for 504

Goals for 504

The most prominent thing for me to take forward from 503 is simplicity. I’ve never been good at simplification. Possibly because I personally enjoy colour/pattern/clutter however this isn't always suitable. I need to realise that detail/business doesn't mean quality and that often less = more and therefore be satisfied with these results.

To push myself out of my comfort zone I want to create multiple outcomes. I have previously struggled creating a diverse range of designs. Eg. in 503 I ended up doing a publication because I struggled refining my collection of ideas appropriately to 5 prints. Therefore I want to produce all 3 final pieces from the same live brief to have variety of complete outcomes.

My initial observation of Hookworms' previous artwork is that it is very graphic/digital and as a result I will be taking on the challenge of working digitally. I have mainly worked/enjoy analogue (deliberately neglecting illustrator) but I think it is important to be versatile - especially if I want to do anything further with music poster design.

Doing a poster for a band that I don't know will be an interesting task. I have created a few posters for my band Badmash (building our own identity) but to be briefed it will challenge me to explore an external visual identity.

I still don't know my place as an illustrator and want to further explore/expand my visual interests to try to establish more of a direction of where I want to go and to be pleased with what I have physically and developmentally achieved.
