Final Mask

This is the set up of the final piece in action!
With these photographs I wanted to create an illusion. Here I have laid down the same materials as are in my mask in my hair. The artificial colours are therefore incorporated (which are similar to my hair) but also the line of the curls is reflected in my hair. I chose to lay down so that my hair could be splayed out. This background reflects block colours which is effectively the same as the cut out papers.

Here I am with a busy background of different postcards in my room. The mask has the same natural downward waves as my hair. However there isn't a lot of natural hair showing so it has a rather tame effect.

This has a plain background with wildness occurring. However this is a cold blue background and I don't feel that it  goes well with the warm fire coloured tones in my hair, of my hair and of my mask.

Here this colourful background accentuated the direction of the line work of the mask. Therefore I reflected this with lying my hair vertically. I also laid some of my hair into the mask including even more incorporated texture.

Production

I wanted the base of my mask to cover only my face (surprised at how small faces are) so that my hair could also feature, almost blending into the mask. Therefore this would create an illusion.

This was my initial stage of the collage. I collected different textures and colours which created a similar effect to my ginger hair.
This developed into different shaped lines of different lengths.  I liked the effect which different layers created.
Here I am testing my mask. I think that the dominant yellow wave fits with my hair .
Here is a photo of me painting string-harder than you think!
This is my final mask, with various textures. It includes string, ribbon and paint. I like  the overall effect.
Here I was trailing mixing my hair with the hair pattern I created. I decided that I needed to explore different ways of incorporating these together.

Initial Ideas

Here I experimented with making an illusion to do with my hair. I feel that my hair is a strong element of who I am and my identity. This mind map explored personal qualities to do with the colours of my hair, including things they had been likened to (fire and a fox's tail). I decided that I wanted to continue with texture and line there fore creating a collaged pattern.
